Billionaire industrialist and brilliant inventor Tony Stark is kidnapped while demonstrating a new weapon in Afghanistan. Forced by his captors to construct a devastating missile, he secretly builds a powered suit of armor and uses it to escape. After returning home, Tony decides that Stark Industries must stop manufacturing weapons, but his decision brings him into conflict with his father’s former partner, Obadiah Stane. Developing an advanced version of his armor, Tony begins his transformation into the hero known as Iron Man.
