Anne Ramsey-Mobley (March 27, 1929 – August 11, 1988) was an American actress renowned for her distinctive voice and unforgettable portrayals of tough, eccentric, and often intimidating characters. After establishing herself in theatre during the 1950s and co-founding Philadelphia's Theatre of the Living Arts with her husband, actor Logan Ramsey, she transitioned to film in the early 1970s, becoming a highly recognizable character actress. She appeared in productions such as Any Which Way You Can, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Deadly Friend, and Scrooged, but achieved her greatest popularity as the ruthless yet memorable Mama Fratelli in The Goonies (1985). Two years later, her performance as Mrs. Lift in Throw Momma from the Train (1987) earned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress, as well as a second Saturn Award. Despite battling esophageal cancer during the final years of her life, Ramsey continued acting and left behind a legacy as one of Hollywood's most distinctive character actresses.
