Daniel Robert Elfman (born May 29, 1953) is an American composer, singer, and songwriter, widely regarded as one of the most influential film composers of the modern era. He first gained recognition as the lead singer and songwriter of the new wave band Oingo Boingo before beginning his long collaboration with director Tim Burton on Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985). Elfman has since composed acclaimed scores for films including Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Men in Black (1997), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), and Good Will Hunting (1997). His distinctive orchestral style has earned him four Academy Award nominations, multiple Grammy Awards, and widespread recognition as one of cinema's defining composers.
