David "Dave" Grusin (born June 26, 1934) is an American composer, arranger, pianist, and record producer whose career has made him one of the most celebrated film composers of his generation. After studying music at the University of Colorado, he began composing for film and television in the 1960s while also establishing himself as a respected jazz musician. Over the following decades he created acclaimed scores for films including The Graduate, Three Days of the Condor, Heaven Can Wait, On Golden Pond, Tootsie, The Goonies, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Firm, and The Milagro Beanfield War, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Beyond his film work, Grusin co-founded GRP Records with Larry Rosen, helping pioneer digital recording in contemporary jazz and producing numerous influential albums. His distinctive fusion of jazz, orchestral, and contemporary styles has earned him ten Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a lasting reputation as one of the defining composers in both film music and modern jazz.
