Michael Phillips (born July 29, 1943) is an American film producer whose work helped define the New Hollywood era of the 1970s. He won the Academy Award for Best Picture as a producer of The Sting (1973), sharing the honor with Julia Phillips and Tony Bill. His producing credits also include acclaimed films such as Taxi Driver (1976), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), and The Competition (1980). Throughout his career, Phillips collaborated with many of the leading filmmakers of his generation and is recognized as one of the producers behind several landmark American films.
