After earning a degree in political science from California State University, Fullerton, he pursued a career in television writing, beginning with Buffy the Vampire Slayer during its fifth season. He quickly became one of Joss Whedon's most trusted collaborators, writing several acclaimed episodes before continuing as a writer and producer on Angel. DeKnight later worked on Smallville and Dollhouse, steadily establishing a reputation for character-driven action and serialized storytelling. His first major creation was the Starz historical drama Spartacus, serving as creator, executive producer, and showrunner across the franchise.
