Vondie Curtis-Hall is an American actor, film director, screenwriter, producer, and former stage performer born on September 30, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. After studying music at the Juilliard School and theater at Richmond College in London, he began his career on Broadway as part of the original casts of productions such as Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music and the legendary musical Dreamgirls, where he originated the role of Marty. He transitioned to film and television in the late 1980s, building a distinguished career with memorable performances in Coming to America, Die Hard 2, Falling Down, Crooklyn, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Eve's Bayou, and The Night House. On television, he earned critical acclaim as Dr. Dennis Hancock in Chicago Hope, receiving multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations as part of the ensemble.
